Amputee Coalition 2015 National Conference
July 23, 2015 @ 8:00 am - July 25, 2015 @ 5:00 pm
If you’re an amputee, spouse/family member/caregiver, support group leader or professional who works with the limb loss community, the Amputee Coalition 2015 National Conference is the place to be!
Just a sampling of the program:
Amputee Sport and Performance Clinic
Always a highlight of the National Conference, this session helps participants improve their mobility and get the most out of their prosthetic device. Led by world-renowned physical therapist and amputee rehabilitation expert Bob Gailey, PhD, PT (physical therapist), participants will be taken through a series of exercises and motions to maximize the performance of their prosthetic device. The morning session will provide basics and an introduction, and the afternoon session will focus on more advanced exercises designed to get amputees running. This session will help you feel more confident with your prosthesis and in your physical abilities.
Gait Analysis Clinic
Physical therapists work one-on-one with participants to evaluate their mobility. Hands-on exercises educate attendees in proper muscle engagement, which will improve balance and result in smoother gait. Carol Miller, PT, PHD, GCS, and Karen Sullivan-Kniestedt, PT, lead this empowering and always popular clinic!
Bilateral Above-Knee Mobility Clinic
Kevin Carroll, MS, CP, FAAOP, provides this unique clinic, which provides a specialized, interactive opportunity to help identify the best approach for individuals with bilateral above-knee amputations to be successful, full-time prosthetic users. Non-prosthetic users will also benefit by learning general information to enhance their mobility and functional ability, and networking with others who have the same level of limb loss.
Adaptive Sports and Recreation Opportunities
Introduction to swimming and advanced swimming, yoga, adaptive golf, rock climbing, and dancing clinics will all be offered at the Amputee Coalition 2015 National Conference! They are also looking to add adaptive cycling and more.
